When I paint I am taken away from all the distractions of modern living.

Kay Hubbard - Nature & Watercolour Artist

The calm in painting is similar to what I feel when I sit on the dock.  It is a summer’s afternoon at my cottage on Lake Miskwabi (Haliburton).  I only have to rest my eyes on the tall trees, rustling birches, yellow and red finches and feel that deep love of nature that stills the soul. I drink in the days when the blue sky and fading sun create water sparkles - just before an equally joyful late afternoon August sunset.  I know my desire to capture those moments and elements of Ontario’s landscape isn’t unique.  However, there is that view that I want to preserve, return to, and share with my friends.

I am a Lewis Carroll devotee. The watercolour medium takes me through the “looking glass”.  I am compelled to follow the white rabbit to another world full of surprises.  I journey through the challenges and find food for the soul.  I step through the looking glass and my art reflects who I am.  And it is a tea party - clean cup, clean paper, move on! Kay Hubbard, Watercolour Artist
