| durhamregion.com - Pickering artist's exhibition in Ajax - by Mike Ruta - May 2010 Kay Hubbard gets into the zone when she works. "When I paint ... there's not a single, solitary person who can get to me," says the Pickering artist. "I'm just there with the colours and the canvas and the thinking about the light and the dark going on in the picture." She's showing her work at the McLean Community Centre in Ajax until May 31. Hubbard used to do textile work and tapestry weaving but watercolour painting "took over" and is her medium of choice. She has learned from many artists, including Pickering's Hi-Sook Barker and Shelley Beach, formerly of Pickering, who became "a mentor." see more
